Founded by three lifelong friends and industry professionals—Matt, Tim, and Brad—our journey began with a simple yet powerful realization: the swimming pool industry was fragmented, leaving customers caught between builders and retailers, often receiving conflicting information about the care and maintenance of their pools.
The Experts Behind DHMO Systems
Matt, a second-generation pool builder, has dedicated over 20 years to the swimming pool construction industry in Southeast Queensland. His family has been at the forefront of pool building since the mid-90s, constructing over 5,000 concrete swimming pools. With a reputation for excellence, his company has won numerous prestigious industry awards, including the title of Australian Pool Builder of the Year in 2019. Beyond construction, Matt has been a tireless advocate for the industry, serving as a director on the board of SPASA Australia, the largest swimming pool and spa association in the Southern Hemisphere, from 2020 to 2022.
Tim, also from a pool-building family, took a different path early in his career, choosing to specialize in aftermarket maintenance and service. Over the past 15 years, he has built a stellar reputation as one of the foremost equipment experts in the industry. Having worked closely with many of the major manufacturers as a warranty and repair agent, Tim brings an unparalleled depth of knowledge in pool equipment and maintenance solutions.
Brad, a childhood friend of Matt’s, is a qualified mechatronics and electronic engineer with extensive experience as a senior commercial automation engineer for global companies. His expertise in automation and smart technologies would later prove instrumental in bringing the D1 to life.
Bridging the Gap
Matt and Tim, having worked in different facets of the pool industry, often discussed the clear disconnect between pool builders and pool retailers. Builders completed stunning projects, but once the keys were handed over, homeowners were left to navigate the world of pool maintenance alone. Meanwhile, retailers provided essential services but often lacked the full context of the pool’s original design and equipment. This divide resulted in confusion, frustration, and inconsistent care for pool owners.
Determined to change this, Matt and Tim joined forces in 2019, creating a service company that specialized in providing post-construction support, contractual servicing, and maintenance for newly completed pools. Their goal was to create a seamless transition between construction and ongoing pool care, ensuring homeowners received expert, consistent guidance from day one.
The Vision for a Smarter Future
As they implemented their service strategies, a groundbreaking idea began to take shape. The rise of e-commerce during the COVID years and the growing adoption of IoT devices in home automation presented a unique opportunity. What if technology could bridge the gap between builders and retailers? What if a single smart device could unify the pool industry, providing homeowners with a seamless, intelligent maintenance experience?
This vision led to the creation of the D1, an innovative, all-in-one solution designed to transform pool maintenance through smart automation and remote monitoring.
Building the Future in Brisbane
In 2022, Brad joined the team, bringing his engineering expertise to turn their vision into reality. Together, the trio assembled a network of Brisbane-based technical specialists, leveraging local manufacturing and cutting-edge design processes to develop the D1 entirely in-house. From initial concept to final production, every element was crafted with precision, passion, and an unwavering commitment to accuracy.
Brisbane, one of the world’s most densely populated markets for domestic swimming pools, provided the perfect environment for this technology to take root. The team at DHMO Systems is proud to introduce a homegrown solution that not only enhances the swimming pool experience but also sets a new standard for the industry.
