& Water Chemistry FAQ

Understanding Pool Chemistry:

Simple Definitions

Q: What is pH, and why does it matter?
A: pH measures how acidic or alkaline your pool water is. The scale goes from 0 (acidic) to 14
(alkaline), with 7 being neutral. Ideal pool pH is between 7.2 and 7.8. If it’s too low, it can corrode
equipment and sting eyes. Too high and water becomes cloudy, reducing sanitiser effectiveness.

Q: What is ORP?
A: ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) measures how effective your pool’s sanitiser (like chlorine) is.
Measured in millivolts (mV), ideal ORP levels are between 650–850 mV. Higher values indicate better
sanitisation.

Q: What is salinity?
A: Salinity measures how much salt is in the water. This is crucial for saltwater pools using salt
chlorinators. Ideal range is 2,500–4,500 ppm. Low salinity = poor chlorination. High salinity = risk of
corrosion.

Q: Who sets these levels?
A: DHMO configures these ranges based on industry standards, Queensland-specific testing, and
manufacturer guidelines. Your readings are classified as Green (Good), Yellow (Warning), or Red
(Alarm). Thresholds can be customised during technician setup but are locked for homeowners.

Q: Why is my pH alert red, but my pool looks fine?
A: Visual clarity isn’t always reliable. A red pH alert means sanitiser may be ineffective or equipment
may be at risk. Trust the app’s data-driven insights.

Q: My app says “No Stats Available.” What does that mean?
A: It usually means your device is offline or not connected to Wi-Fi. Go to Device > Wi-Fi Info and check
your connection. You may need to reset your Wi-Fi password.

Q: The reading hasn’t changed all day. Is the sensor broken?
A: Not necessarily. The DHMO device updates once per hour. If readings seem frozen, ensure the
pump is on and Wi-Fi is stable. Wait and recheck after 60 minutes.

Q: What should I do if I see a red alert in the Alerts tab?
A: Tap the alert to view issue details. Follow the product suggestion and tutorial. After correcting, tap
‘Remove Notification’ to clear it from your list.

Q: Can I change the ideal chemical levels myself?
A: No. These are pre-set for safety and performance. If something seems off, contact DHMO support
via the Support tab.

Q: What happens if my Wi-Fi changes?
A: Go to Device > Wi-Fi Info > Reset Password. Enter the new password and the app will reconnect to
your sensor device using Bluetooth.

Q: How do I download a report of my pool chemistry?

A: Go to Stats > Reports. Select parameters and date range. Tap Generate. Reports will appear in your
history and can be downloaded in Excel format.
